Physical Transport Planning

Successful geometric design is a prerequisite for fluent traffic. Traficon compiles road, street, intersection and parking facility designs with experience. We also make city centre and urban area traffic plans.

Traffic Control and Information Systems Planning

Traffic can be controlled using road markings, traffic signals and variable/static traffic signs. Well-designed traffic control is an essential part of a safe traffic environment. Real time information improves the traffic service level. Traficon has compiled traffic signal plans for hundreds of intersections all over Finland. In traffic sign planning we use the state-of-the-art design software NovaPOINT.

Traffic management and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS)

The goal of traffic management is an efficient, safe and environmentally sustainable transport system. Traficon has promoted ITS in Finland for example by taking part in national and regional ITS development and implementation plans. We work closely in co-operation with the Finnish Road Administration developing traffic management and information services for road users. We also create solutions and prepare guidelines in addition to designing databases and applications.

System Architecture

System architecture creates the basis for system compatibility and interoperability as well as enables ease of update and international competition on the equipment markets. Traficon has been involved in the creation and development of the national framework architecture TelemArk from the beginning and has also taken part in the EU framework architecture KAREN/FRAME. Traficon was also one of the compilers of the Nordic Transport Telematics Terminology.

Transport Pricing and Road Tolls

Innovative pricing diverts traffic away from e.g. city centres, improves intermodal co-operation and advances transport infrastructure's efficient use. The assets can then be invested in necessary transport projects. Traficon has been involved in most of EC's major traffic pricing technology development projects.

Traffic Safety

A common goal of transport projects is to improve safety. Traficon has a long history in the field of traffic safety including several development projects as well as regional traffic safety plans.

Public Transport

Public transport prioritisation measures include e.g. physical improvements, demand management, payment system development, traffic signal priorities and passenger information. Traficon has sound competence in public transport prioritisation all the way from strategy planning to implementation. We are also the leading consultant in designing traffic signal priorities for public transport in Finland.
